Mother of the Bride dresses – How to Select the Right One

The mother of the bride has a critical role to play in the planning of her daughter’s wedding. She has the onerous responsibility of drawing up the guest list, selecting the venue, food and drinks, and the time for the wedding. But as the mother of the bride, even if you have your hands full, you have to find some time to decide what you are going to wear. After all, it is your daughter’s wedding and you should lookchic and beautiful.

Here are some guidelines for you to follow.

Start the selection exercise at least three months before the event. Whether you are buying a gown or a mother of the bride pant suit off the shelf from a wedding boutique or having a dress tailor-made for you, leave adequate time for alterations and fittings if necessary. Further, it is traditional for the mother of the bride to finalize the dress and inform the mother of the groom who will then start her exercise of dress selection. The idea behind completing the dresses of the two mothers is to stand out in the crowd and be in sync in the wedding photographs. Therefore, you must give enough time to her too to arrive at a decision.

The season has a big role to play in dress selection. Deciding on a heavy brocade dress with lace sleeves will leave you uncomfortable in summer, however beautiful the outfit might be. Similarly, a strapless dress or a cold-shoulder one in winter is not suitable though you can keep yourself warm by draping a shawl or a jacket around your shoulders. A mother of the bride pant suit is an all-weather attire. In summer, wear a gorgeous pantsuit as a standalone outfit and in winter the same dress may be worn with a finely embroidered bolero jacket embellished with fur, crystals, and beads. With this combination, you will surely look a cut above the rest.

Finally, the wedding venue is a key to the dress. A flowing gown or a dressy mother of the bridepant suit is right for a black-tie church wedding or a semi-formal event. But for an informal outdoor or beach wedding, a pretty floral summer dress would ideally fit the bill.
