Bolero Jacket – A Must-Have for Your Wardrobe

Bolero jackets have been in fashion for ages. This typical piece of outfit is cut in the design of traditional waist-length jackets worn by matadors and bullfighters. Boleros were a rage till the 1990s when they went off the fashion radar, only to be brought back in the limelight by Yves Saint Laurent who revived the trend in the early 2000s. Since then, a bolero jacket has been a must-have ensemble in the wardrobes of almost all women, regardless of their age or ethnicity.

Most people tend to talk about a bolero jacket and a shrug in the same breath but it is strictly not true. Shrugs are cropped cardigans, open at the front, and available in various lengths. A bolero jacket, on the other hand, is dressier and ideal for formal parties or an evening out. Boleros are available in a range of options from the simple basic stuff to the more chic and elaborate ones that can cost a few hundred dollars. But any bolero, whether it is a short or long-sleeved one and cropped and crisply tailored will make you the toast of any event.

One of the main advantages of a bolero jacket is that it is an all-season garment. The informal lace ones with minimalistic designs are ideal for a fun outing with friends and family or as office wear. Then there are the more sophisticated ones that are perfect for an evening out or a dinner date. The high-end ones are often embellished with beads, crystals, and fur and made from silk or heavy brocade. These are also perfect in winter to keep out the chill and are a good alternative to the usual shawls and cardigans.

Since a bolero jacket is worn over another dress or outfit, it is essential that the two match and complement each other. But for that to happen, you cannot buy several boleros to match all the dresses in your wardrobe. Instead, buy boleros in solid pastel colors in light prints or stripes. A pale blue bolero for instance can be matched with almost all the dresses in blue in your wardrobe not to speak of your favorite blue jeans.
