Norms to Follow for Mother of the Bride Dresses

Mother of the bride dresses has slowly evolved from being matronly age-appropriate dresses in pale beige and cream to ones in bright and stunning colors, cuts, and fashion that setwedding venues on fire. Sequined gowns, dressier mother of the bride pant suit, maxis and midis, and structured jumpsuits are all permissible in the present wedding dress scenario.

This does not mean that like a party or a casual outing with friends and family, you can wear anything that takes your fancy. Every wedding has a dress code depending on the level of the formality and that of your daughter is no exception.

So how do you start the process of selecting a mother of the bride dress?

The first step is to discuss the matter with your daughter as it is her wedding and she will have preferences about what her mother should wear and look like. She might not want you to wear anything complex and audacious while you would want to look your glamorous best. While your choice could be a dressier and chic mother of thebride pant suit, she might plump for the more traditional gown. What you ultimately decide to put on for the wedding should be a delicate compromise between two.

The next stop is the color of the dress and here too there are certain guidelines to follow. A few colors are strictly off-limits – white, off-white, cream, champagne, and similar hues. These are bridal colors and your daughter might be wearing one of them. It is her great day and nothing should take the focus away from her, not even her mother in the same-colored dress. Ask your daughter too about the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses and avoid the exactsame type. However, for example, if they are wearing blue, you may choose to wear a blue gown or a mother of the bride pant suit but in a shade darker or lighter.

Consider the season too. Heavy brocade dresses in summer will leave you uncomfortable throughout the day. In winter, you might have to drape a bolero jacket over your shoulders if you have selected a wispy and lacy mother of the bride pant suit.

Keep these aspects in mind while choosing a dress for your daughter’s wedding.
